Bruh, why her family were cried about her being happy if they abused her.

Smile Smile Meme, also known as Smile Meme, is a Gacha trend first made around 2021. It became largely notorious as one of the worst examples of child abuse in Gacha as well as one of the worst instances of handling drugs in the community, and has been commonly associated with the videos talking about rape, abuse and bullying.

Why It Needs to Turn Its Smile Upside Down

  1. The meme is notorious for portraying two serious topics as trends, which is a problem that already suffered with the GLMVs of the positively received song "Happy Pills", except this time, the videos are much shorter and portrays them worse, especially the substance abuse.
  2. Most of the characters, except the protagonist, are extremely unlikable; all of them are one-dimensional.
  3. The portrayal of drugs is incredibly unrealistic.
  4. As with most videos, GachaTubers who made this trend tried to dismiss the criticism by saying it was meant to spread awareness, when it's not true in the slightest.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. At least both the father and sister redeemed themselves at the end.
  2. The girl who got abused by her father is very likable.

Reception

The trend was heavily panned by multiple members of the Gacha community, calling out the fact that it poorly tackles substance abuse, as well the fact that it tackles abuse in a kids game. Because of this content, it became synonymous with Gacha Life videos that contain dark and mature topics, such as sexual abuse, domestic violence and bullying.
