Crime meme

Why does this meme even exist?

Crime meme is a trend that was viral between February-March 2021. It became infamous for glamorizing criminals into making people think that they're good people and misrepresenting the actual events; as a result, it was considered as one of the worst Gacha trends of all time.

Why It's Intentionally a Crime (Absolutely NO Pun Intended)[edit | edit source]

  1. The main problem is the portrayal of these criminals (who are real criminals by the way): Isabella Guzman, Devon Erickson, and Jacob Morgan. Not only do they portray them in a positive and lighthearted way, but also support them.
  2. Another huge problem is that these events were recreated in Gacha Life and Gacha Club, both games for kids.
  3. As usual, most of the videos are incredibly in low quality; considering they come from actual tragic events, it's extremely disrespectful to the victims.
  4. These memes explain why they got arrested, but their explanations are mostly false and misleading and don't actually explain what really happened, especially in the case of Jacob. For example, Jacob got arrested for intentionally burning his half-brother by putting him in fire; while he did intentionally kill him, it wasn't like that. Rather, he was burned in a house.
  5. GachaTubers who made videos from this trend try to dismiss criticism with the stale excuse that "it was made to spread awareness". How does a meme that poorly and positively portrays criminals and remade on a kids game supposed to spread awareness?!

Reception[edit | edit source]

Unsurprisingly, Crime meme received tons of backlash from the Gacha community due to it positively portraying criminals, piss-poor grasp of the actual event, low quality, and so on. It was considered by many not only one of the worst Gacha trends of all time, but also one of the worst trends ever made.
